Vivo OriginOS Ocean Android skin launched with new music player, camera app and lock screen
The redesigned Vivo OriginOS Ocean skin launched in China on Thursday. The operating system is the successor to the OriginOS skin and brings various new design elements as well as interactive modes and apps. These include a redesigned music player (Walkman), a new dialer interface, a player app that brings together content from various sources in one place, and a new camera app. . Vivo says it designed the operating system to provide a smooth experience and low power consumption. The Chinese company also revealed a rollout schedule and a list of phones that will receive the OriginOS Ocean update.
Vivo listed the features of the OriginOS Ocean saying that the essence of the new skin is to use the design to “bring precise focus and effective communication” through all aspects of the system. There are changes in the call screen and it has a newly designed music player called Walkman. Vivo says users can “easily call the Walkman” from any interface and also customize buttons and background colors for the interface. The colors and shapes of the music panel are also said to change depending on the type of music being played. Vivo worked with local music streaming platforms for integration with the player.
Along with “optimized layout, spacing, color and background”, the reading feature on OriginOS Ocean brings a true page rotation effect that allows users to flip pages digitally. There is a new camera app with easy gesture controls. Users can slide their fingers up, down, left, and right to add effects to photos. Vivo also states that the app now incorporates settings such as natural saturation and hue saturation. There is an advanced focusing system that is built into things like level gauge, anti-shake state, changing focal length, and changing exposure with the focus ring.
There is also a new lock screen system that incorporates various functions, and some of them work with the user’s fingerprint. OriginOS Ocean also has a new main screen system and flexible folder system, Vivo says. The skin is supposed to offer better memory management and easier multitasking switching. In terms of privacy, OriginOS Ocean is said to offer “system level privacy security solutions and management capabilities”.
“OriginOS Ocean divides primary user data collection into five levels of data security and improves the collection authority of sensitive data in the app to minimize the collection of user information by the app,” says Vivo.
Vivo also revealed the OriginOS Ocean deployment timeline. The first batch of smartphones to benefit from the operating system upgrade includes the Vivo X70, Vivo X60 and iQoo 8 series. Deployment begins on December 30. The second batch of smartphones will receive the update from the end of January 2022, the third batch in February and March 2022, and the last batch will receive the OriginOS Ocean update in April 2022.
