Friends in the music industry register Misha’s Kind Foods as a ‘dairy company’ in Los Angeles to legally label vegan products as cheese
With the celebration of National Black Affairs Month in August, one of these black-owned businesses is Misha’s good foods – producers of gourmet vegetable cheeses in Los Angeles. Interestingly, Misha’s is certified and licensed as a dairy company, which allows it to legally use the word “cheese” on its artisanal herbal products.
Co-founded by longtime friends Ian Martin and Aaron Bullock, the couple left their careers in the music industry to make vegan cheese, making their debut at local farmers’ markets in 2015, before moving on to make vegan cheese. introduce Misha’s to the market in 2018.
The product portfolio includes Sari (dried tomatoes, roasted garlic, cilantro); Joi (jalapeno, oregano, thyme); Lox (dill, capers, roasted carrots); Seven Point Five (jalapeno, habanero, strawberries); French Connection (Provence herbs, grains of paradise, black olives); Smoked cheddar (smoked paprika, chipotle); Black truffle (black truffle, shallots) and Ricotta.
The products are healthy and 100% vegan cheeses created from a base of cashew and almond milk and mixed with fresh herbs, vegetables and locally sourced spices, avoiding vegetable oils, soy, fillers, starches and nutritional yeast.
Speaking to vegconomist, the founders explain; “We are proud to be an inclusive company. Our cheeses are not just for vegans, but for the culinary curious, first-adopters, plant fanatics and health conscious.
“A powerful and diverse team”
As a business, community outreach plays an important role for Misha’s. For example, in May 2020, Misha’s “Feed Our Families” initiative partnered with Communities in Schools LA and Hannah’s Children Homes to feed approximately 1,000 at-risk youth and their families.
“We are committed to giving back to the community with programs like our ‘Feed Our Family’ food security program which partners with organizations to identify families in need and then provide them with a supply of healthy groceries. from farm to fork for 52 weeks a year.
“We are proud to be led by a powerful and diverse team that values love, equality, kindness and brings generational health and wealth to the black community,” Misha’s explained.
