Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle nominees

  • The International Bluegrass Music Association announced the nominees for the Bluegrass Music Awards on Tuesday.
  • Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle, Po’ Ramblin’ Boys and more deserved nods for the 2022 awards ceremony.
  • The association also confirmed the Bluegrass Music Call of Fame 2022 class.

The nominees for the 2022 Bluegrass Music Awards include hot newcomers alongside proven lifelong selectors.

Modern brandon Billy Strings, fast-paced songwriter Molly Tuttle, living legend Del McCoury, traditional bluegrass band Po ‘Ramblin’ Boys, award-winning band Sister Sadie and other deserved nominations for the annual show, announced Tuesday the International Bluegrass Music Association.

The 2022 Bluegrass Music Awards will take place on September 29 in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Tuttle, Strings, McCoury, Po’ Ramblin’ Boys and Sister Sadie compete for the Entertainer of the Year, the first prize awarded by the association. Strings won the honor in 2021; Sister Sadie was named artist of the year in 2020.

Strings – a prominent artist figure among today’s bluegrass players – is also competing in Instrumental Group of the Year, Song of the Year, Instrumental Recording of the Year, the guitarist of the year and album of the year, largely behind his 2021 album “Renewal.”

Tuttle and his band of aces Golden Highway earn his first Artist of the Year nomination, as well as a nod for Album of the Year behind 2022’s release “Crooked Tree.”

A member of the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame, McCoury and his band earned additional nominations for Vocal Group of the Year, Collaborative Recording of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year.

Additionally, the association confirmed Tuesday that the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame Class of 2022 includes multi-instrumentalist Norman Blake, broadcaster Paul “Moon” Mullins and singer-songwriter Peter Rowan.

This year, a handful of Distinguished Achievement Award recipients plan to be celebrated at the ceremony. Recognized for everyone’s contribution to bluegrass music, honorees include longtime touring band Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, flatpicker Dan Crary, roots organization Dan Crary, banjo musician Steve Huber and online educators Peghead Nation.
