Apple Music could be coming to PS5

Spotify has been a music streaming option on PS5 since its launch in November, giving you the ability to listen to your favorite music when playing games. Soon, however, the console could support another service: Apple Music.

The first clue came earlier this week when a Reddit user posted a photo of Apple Music appearing in the music menu on the PS5. The option apparently appeared after creating a new account and trying to link it to Spotify. It looks like the app didn’t work, the Reddit user also shared a photo of a post that said “This app is playable only on PS4” which Eurogamer dit is a standard error message when an application is not available.

Eurogamer said he was also able to see the Apple Music option when creating a new US account, although he was not able to replicate it. Apple Music option did not appear when I tried to create a new US account while writing this article.

The inconsistency of the Apple Music option suggests that the Reddit user and Eurogamer may have had an early glimpse of something Sony and Apple have in the works. The two companies recently worked together on an Apple TV Plus promotion for PS5 owners, so it looks like there is a relationship there. Apple introduced Apple Music to Samsung smart TVs last year, showing that it is ready to expand the availability of the app beyond Apple platforms. And the app appears just days before the Apple event on October 18, which would be a potential venue for Apple and Sony to announce that the app is coming to PS5.

Sony and Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
